August Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th 10.30-3.30 Have you ever wanted to record the world around you in a sketchbook but not known where to start? Then this is the right course for you! And Sherborne is the perfect town in which to learn. Whether you haven’t picked up a pen in decades or have had some experience of art tuition more recently you’ll gain from this introduction into a very mindful and immersive practice. Starting right at the beginning, our sessions will be packed with simple techniques and demos. We will explore ways in which you can begin a sketching habit with confidence. We’ll use different materials and ways of seeing, taking away the fear of putting pen to paper. Apart from working in the studio, we will be getting out and about in town to put what we learn into practise. There’ll be lots of opportunity for one-to-one tuition and plenty of encouragement for you to pursue your own drawing style. We will cover all kinds of topics including; Using materials effectively Understanding basic perspective Pen and wash Mixing colour Drawing people Recording detail How to work fast and loose Be warned; some people get addicted to sketching! Sketchbook; A portable sketchbook, preferably without ring binding and with good quality paper which will take paint. Seawhite 140mm Sq Artist Watercolour Travel Journal is a good example and has watercolour paper of a good weight. 2. Waterproof pen and other drawing materials; A selection of pencils, and other drawing materials. Permanent/waterproof ink pens. Fineliners such as UniPin Fineliner Dark Grey 0.5mm Tip, a fountain pen filled with waterproof ink (NOT Indian ink) or even biros are what you’ll need. 3. Watercolour Paints; A set of watercolours; pans work best. Also watercolour pencils if you have them 4. Brushes; A selection of soft watercolour type brushes. Ideal size is 12/14 and larger. 5. A small bag to take sketchbook and pen out into town with. I use a small cross-body handbag. About your tutor Julie Sajous:- I’m an artist and teacher with more than thirty years’ experience teaching a wide range of drawing and painting, more recently specialising in sketching. I teach regular classes at my studio on the Isle of Wight as well as running sketchbook retreats in The Algarve.
